Quality Control: Identify Hidden Defects
One of the main applications of THz imaging is based on the possibility to look into objects, i.e. to get a full three dimensional image of the object under test. The THz data allows the visualization of individual layers in the middle of the object, which allows to identify defects like holes, cracks, missing glue, and so on.
The THz image of a test sample clearly shows the different layers, the area of the glue (and where it is missing!), and the holes. The top THz image shows the maximum reflectivity and a red line. At the position of the red line, a new THz image was generated out of the THz data and is shown in the lower THz image.
